Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Coronation’s Community Infrastructure

April 30, 2013
Coronation, Alberta

Today, Kevin Sorenson, Member of Parliament for Crowfoot, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the Coronation Swimming Pool under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

Our Government is focused on what matters to Canadians – creating jobs and growth,” said MP Sorenson. “By investing in infrastructure improvement projects across the country, such as the rehabilitation of the Coronation Swimming Pool, our Government continues to boost economic activity, while also meeting the needs of communities.

The Harper Government’s investment of $108,800 will support necessary upgrades to the Coronation Swimming Pool, including the replacement of its boiler and filtration system, retiling the pool edge and resurfacing its basin. These improvements will extend the Pool’s lifespan and reduce maintenance costs, while ensuring the continued delivery of its summertime aquatic programs and services.

The Town of Coronation takes great pride in its recreational facilities and strives to maintain them to the standards that our community members have come to expect,” said Sandra Kulyk, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Coronation. “The major upgrading of the Coronation Swimming Pool this year has been made possible with the generous support received from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
