Today, the Honourable Mike Lake, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry and Member of Parliament for Edmonton—Mill Woods—Beaumont, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the Mill Woods Recreation Centre under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
Our Government continues to ensure that the infrastructure needs of communities in Edmonton are addressed," said MP Lake. "
This investment in the Mill Woods Recreation Centre demonstrates our commitment to creating jobs, growth and long term prosperity."
The Harper Government's investment of $250,000 will support upgrades to the Centre's heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as well as structural enhancements and the installation of a new wave pool generator. These renovations will improve the indoor air quality and temperature, while creating a more enjoyable recreational experience for all users.
Our government is proud to support the improvements to the Mill Woods Recreation Centre Pool with $2.3 million through the Municipal Sustainability Initiative," said Doug Griffiths, Minister of Municipal Affairs. "
A key element of building Alberta communities is investing in facilities like this one, where families can enjoy recreation and fitness with their friends and neighbours."
The growth and revitalization of Edmonton's multi-purpose recreation centres ensures increasing access to positive social, community, physical, health and economic benefits as well as skill development," said Mayor Stephen Mandel. "
The City's investment of $375,000 into the Mill Woods Recreation Centre will benefit residents today and ensure sustainable programming and services for future generations of Edmontonians."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
