Today, Blaine Calkins, Member of Parliament for Wetaskiwin, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Winfield Agriplex Arena under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
The Winfield Agriplex Arena is used by many local residents of all ages," said MP Calkins. "
I am pleased that our Government is investing in the Arena which will help improve the player and spectator experience at the facility, and contribute to our community's long-term growth and prosperity."
The Harper Government's investment of $50,000 will support the replacement of arena bleachers in the Winfield Agriplex. This improvement will create a more comfortable environment for users and increase the number of visitors to the arena for years to come.
The County of Wetaskiwin is sincerely appreciative of the programs provided by the Government of Canada which allows rural municipalities to share the significant costs of maintaining or improving local infrastructure," said Garry Dearing, Reeve of the County of Wetaskiwin No. 10. "
We are grateful to MP Blaine Calkins for his support for projects in the County of Wetaskiwin. With the funding of this project we are ensuring the viability of this small community as the Winfield Agriplex is the centerpiece for community economic activity and the cultural core of the hamlet."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
