Today, Blake Richards, Member of Parliament for Wild Rose, together with Earl Dreeshen, Member of Parliament for Red Deer, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to Camp Alexo in Nordegg under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
Our Government is pleased to support infrastructure projects across the country in communities such as Nordegg,” said MP Richards. “
Our investments across Canada will benefit families and communities immediately, helping to support job creation, boosting economic activity, as well as creating safe and accessible community facilities for years to come.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $95,000 will enhance the services available at Camp Alexo, which is run by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Red Deer & District, as well as the Red Deer Youth and Volunteer Centre. Since 1984, Camp Alexo has provided youth in Central Alberta with affordable camp experiences and recreational opportunities. Renovations to the facility’s restrooms will help accommodate the increasing number of youth and families who visit the Camp.
I am proud that our Government’s continued investment in community infrastructure will assist the efforts of two Red Deer organizations dedicated to providing valuable programs for youth,” said MP Dreeshen. “
Camp Alexo is an important recreational resource for youth in communities across Central Alberta.”
We are thrilled to receive this investment from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,” said David Murphy, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Red Deer & District and the Red Deer Youth and Volunteer Centre. “
The buildings at Camp Alexo are over 20 years old and this will enable us to continue to provide a quality outdoor wilderness experience to the many children and youth who attend our camp each year. Investing in our facilities is investing in the future of our children and youth.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
