The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, Minister for Status of Women and Member of Parliament for Edmonton—Spruce Grove, announced support for the Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area Society under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see the City of Edmonton benefit from our Government's support for local infrastructure," said Minister Ambrose. "
This investment will help create jobs and economic growth while helping to ensure that an important community resource is available for years to come."
The Harper Government's investment of $250,000 will support several upgrades to the Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters McCauley Building. Structural and mechanical improvements will be made throughout the facility, as well as renovations to the kitchen and community area. These enhancements will ensure the McCauley Building can continue to support after-school and out-of-school programs for Edmonton youth for years to come.
Boys & Girls Clubs and Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations provide invaluable programs to Edmonton and area youth and it is important that their facility provides a safe, healthy environment for these children," said Alberta Culture Minister Heather Klimchuk. "
We are proud to partner with them, the Rotary Club of Edmonton and the Government of Canada by providing a Community Facility Enhancement Program grant of $100,000 to support upgrades to the McCauley Building."
The Rotary Club of Edmonton is excited to hear the news about the federal funding for the refurbishment of the Boys and Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters McCauley Building," said Darel Baker, President of the Rotary Club of Edmonton. "
Through the support of all the funders, and our own commitment of $200,000, we can look forward to the completion of a project that will benefit the youth and families served by the Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters organization."
Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters is extremely honoured to receive this important funding from the Government of Canada," said Liz O'Neill, Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area Society. "
This funding will allow us to complete the planned renovations on what is an integral hub for our organization and for the children and families we are honored to serve."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
