Today, the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs) and Member of Parliament for Calgary—Nose Hill, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the St. Rita School Playground under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
Calgarians and all Canadians have a long tradition of connecting through community activities and sports," said Minister Ablonczy. "
This investment will support that legacy through the improvement of local infrastructure, and will also contribute to creating jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity in the City of Calgary."
The Harper Government's investment of $49,600 will enhance the services provided by the St. Rita School Playground and will create jobs. The project will include the purchase and installation of new recreational equipment and will create an enhanced and more enjoyable experience for children, families and visitors in this community for years to come.
The Ranchlands Educational Enrichment Society, which is made up of parent volunteers from within our school community, is honored to have received this funding from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund," said Tammy Chan, President of the Ranchlands Educational Enrichment Society. "
This support from WD will provide our families with a new, safer playground that will increase the quality of life in our community".
Playgrounds are integral to creating active and healthy school environments," said Mary Martin, Chair of the Calgary Catholic School District Board of Trustees. "
We're extremely pleased that St. Rita students will benefit from their new creative playground as a result of funding received through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
