Scouts Canada is completing camp upgrades on Vancouver Island, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Unprecedented investments under Canada’s Economic Action Plan, such as improvements to Camp Barnard, will help see us through the global downturn, while providing infrastructure that our children and community groups will be able to enjoy for years to come,
” said the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State for Sport and Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
With this investment, Scouts Canada is constructing concrete pads, walkways and wheelchair ramps to improve accessibility at Camp Barnard - a residential and wilderness style camp located near Sooke, B.C. Washroom facilities and a first-aid shelter will also undergo upgrades. The project will benefit the schools, church groups, youth service organizations, athletic clubs and First Nations that use the camp.
Funding of $15,895 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Improving facilities at Camp Barnard is a constant challenge,
” said Grace Seabrook, Camp Committee Chair. “This funding has allowed us to tackle several time-consuming upgrades that will make for a safer and more accessible site for our many young campers.
”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, Western Economic Diversification Canada has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
