Canada’s Economic Action Plan Supports Tynehead Regional Park

April 24, 2010
Surrey, British Columbia

Metro Vancouver is moving forward with upgrades to Tynehead Regional Park thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Investing in Tynehead Park will create jobs right here in Surrey, while providing the Metro Vancouver region with an improved recreational area to enjoy for many years to come,” said Nina Grewal, Member of Parliament for Fleetwood-Port Kells, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.

Tynehead Regional Park, managed by Metro Vancouver, protects 260 hectares of natural forest and abundant wildlife situated in North Surrey. Upgrades to the park will include a multi-use perimeter trail, expanded parking, landscaping, picnic facilities, interpretive displays and art installations along the trail.

Funding of $1 million is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Metro Vancouver is most grateful and thanks the Government of Canada for this significant investment,” said Director Gayle Martin, Chair of Metro Vancouver’s Parks Committee. “A revitalized Tynehead Regional Park will offer splendid outdoor recreational opportunities, in the middle of one of the region’s fastest growing communities.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, Western Economic Diversification Canada has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
