Curling rink upgrades in the Town of Blaine Lake will move forward thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“I’m pleased to announce our Government’s support for Blaine Lake,
” said Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification. “This investment will help ensure that our curling rink will strengthen and enrich our community for many years to come.
”
The town’s curling rink will undergo improvements that include insulating the ceiling and upstairs lobby with a low-emissions foil ceiling. These changes to the facility will reduce energy consumption and operating costs.
Funding of $8,333 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Blaine Lake Community Fund Raising Organization will provide the balance of funding of the total project cost of $25,000.
“The RInC grant will help us to continue to operate the community curling rink facility,
” said Mike Linsley, Vice Chairperson of the Blaine Lake Community Fund Raising Organization. "With the increased costs of operating this facility and the decline in rural population the installation of low-e insulation will help us to operate a more energy efficient facility.
”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
