Duck Lake is moving forward with upgrading its curling rink thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the upgrading project that will create jobs for the community.
“I’m pleased that our Government, through the Economic Action Plan, is delivering for Duck Lake residents,
” said MP Vellacott. “Upgrading the Duck Lake curling rink will ensure our community has access to the essential infrastructure we need today and in the future.
”
Funding of $6,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Town of Duck Lake is providing the balance of the funding for an estimated total project cost of $18,000.
The Town is repairing the curling rink roof and replacing shingles as needed, which will extend the life of the facility.
"Our curling rink upgrades will be a great opportunity for us,
" said Duck Lake Mayor Denis Poirier. "We're interested in getting more kids involved in curling so we're working with the school to get students out to the rink. The upgrades will extend the life and the curling rink and make it a more viable recreation complex for the town.
"
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. A total of almost $153 million in RInC funding will be invested across the four western provinces by Western Economic Diversification Canada.
