The Kilkenny Community League’s facilities are receiving upgrades thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Peter Goldring, Member of Parliament for Edmonton East, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the project that will enhance recreational infrastructure in Edmonton and provide stimulus to the local economy.
“Our Government, through the Economic Action Plan, is committed to supporting projects that will enrich our communities,
” said MP Goldring. “Today’s investment in the Kilkenny Community League will create jobs right here in Edmonton, while ensuring that our community has the recreational infrastructure to serve and strengthen our community for many years to come.
”
Federal funding of $152,167 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
"The City of Edmonton is proud of the tremendous success of the Kilkenny Community League in pursuing this project and making it happen,
" said City Councillor Tony Caterina.
"The efforts of the volunteers involved are what make a great neighbourhood.
" Further support was expressed by Councillor Ed Gibbons, "Congratulations to the community of Kilkenny on their recent grant from the federal Government. I know the children of Kilkenny will enjoy and profit from this generous gift.
"
The project involves replacing the existing boards and perimeter fencing at two outdoor rinks. A small maintenance building that will house rink equipment is also be constructed. These improvements will make rink maintenance more efficient, attract new users and encourage winter recreation throughout the community.
As an organization committed to keeping pace with the changing needs of Kilkenny Community League members, President Eric Johnson noted that “this project will help ensure these outdoor rinks remain modern venues that our members will enjoy for many years to come, which will benefit this entire community.
”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. A total of almost $153 million in RInC funding will be invested across the four western provinces. Western Economic Diversification Canada is delivering the program in Western Canada.
