MP Tom Lukiwski, David Marit from SARM, MP Andrew Scheer, Provincial Minister Bill Hutchinson, and Barry Gunther from SUMA celebrate over $95 million invested in Saskatchewan communities.

Today federal, provincial and local governments joined forces to build Saskatchewan communities and create jobs with a combined $95 million boost to build infrastructure such as bridges, roads and water systems. This announcement was made by the Honourable Bill Hutchinson, Saskatchewan Minister of Municipal Affairs, and Andrew Scheer, Member of Parliament for Regina – Qu’Appelle.

Today's announcement is one more step in the economic booster shot announced by Premier Wall earlier this month," Minister Hutchinson said. "The federal government, the province and Saskatchewan municipalities are working together to fund 46 much-needed projects in communities all across Saskatchewan. That's on top of the 138 provincially-funded projects announced at the start of February."

Today’s announcement demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to the recent Economic Action Plan and our priority of accelerating infrastructure investments to create jobs and improve our quality of life,” said Andrew Scheer. “The funding will help smaller communities throughout Saskatchewan meet their pressing infrastructure needs, support economic growth and help stimulate the economy.

The projects announced today will improve local roads, water and wastewater infrastructure. A project highlight from today’s announcement is the construction of a new water treatment plant for the town of Cupar. Completion of this $5 million project will allow the community to meet current environmental standards.

The federal and provincial governments provide up to two-thirds of the funding for eligible project costs, with local governments covering the remainder of project funding.  Federal and Provincial contributions for this investment total $63 million.  Together with funds from the communities, the investment in local infrastructure will total more than $95 million.
