Canada Business is a federal-provincial initiative designed to offer a single, seamless portal to information for small businesses across the country. In Western Canada, these centres are part of Western Economic Diversification Canada's (WD) Business Service Network, with offices in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon and Winnipeg.

In Vancouver, these services are provided by Canada Business through Small Business BC, where established and aspiring entrepreneurs may access a wide variety of information about starting and growing a business, registering a business and exporting goods.

Services delivered through Small Business BC include:

  • Business and name registration;
  • In-person and videoconference seminars on business topics, including business management, marketing, e-commerce, business development and more;
  • Assistance with the exporting process;
  • Help with labour employment practices;
  • A business resource library with over 6,000 publications;
  • Market research services;
  • E-Business resources and start-up tools;
  • An Interactive Business Planner, where aspiring entrepreneurs are taken through the business planning process;
  • Small Business Checkup: an online tool designed to help small business managers improve business performance; and
  • Business plans reviews and feedback.

Small Business BC is primarily operated through its website: http://www.smallbusinessbc.ca/.  Services are also available over the phone and in person.
