Through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF), the Harper Government has committed to creating jobs and supporting communities through repairs and improvements to existing community facilities. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Three CIIF projects have been funded on Southern Vancouver Island and on Pender Island, with funding allocated as follows:

|Pender Island Public Library Association||The recipient has upgraded the Pender Island Public Library. Funding improved the interior of the building, including increasing accessibility and enhancing the building entry and front counter design.||$59,065|
|The Corporation of the District of Saanich||The recipient upgraded Majestic Park playground. This project involved improving drainage and installing new and accessible play equipment, walkways and ramps, bike racks, picnic table, benches and shade trees.||$58,042|
|Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary Society||The recipient renovated the Martelli House so that it could be used for shared office space as well as provide an information area and meeting space for the public.||$67,000|
