Follow the steps outlined below to complete your application for funding through one of Western Economic Diversification Canada's programs.

Before Submitting a Proposal

Before submitting a proposal, or for additional information on the Programs, please contact the WD office nearest you to have a preliminary discussion, or call us at 1-888-338 -WEST (9378).

Preparing Your Proposal

A Funding Request Summary form must accompany every proposal:  Online form | PDF (101 Kb). If you have trouble accessing the application form, please contact us for assistance.

Attach your proposal to the Online Form and submit both documents electronically. To submit the PDF Form and proposal, please contact the WD office nearest you, or call us at 1-888-338 - WEST (9378).

Your proposal should consist of, at minimum, a 1-2 page summary of the project including:

• A brief description of the project including location
• Project timelines including:
  • Start and End Dates
  • Key activities and milestones
• Project cost information including:
  • Key partners and other potential sources of funding
  • Any revenues to be generated by the project
  • Planned professional and or expert services
• Objectives of the project and benefits to be derived

A WD Officer will acknowledge your submission within twelve working days of receipt of submission.

Review and Approval of your Proposal

If the project fits with priorities, a more detailed proposal would be required and should include the following elements:

• Recent financial statements for the organization,
• A description of the governance of the organization (if not previously provided),
• A detailed budget with expenses categorized as capital and non-capital, including explanations for budgeted amounts and how they were determined (demonstrating value for money),
• Key phases and milestones for the project,
• Details on how and when the success (outcomes) of the project will be measured,
• Potential risks to implementation, financing, and the physical environment* along with mitigation strategies. 

Note: Review and approval process for detailed submissions may take up to 90 calendar days from receipt of submission.

* Projects involving physical works may be subject to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
